matter was explained to David. I did not see him at that

time. I understand that His Excellency also spoke to

Mr. T.V. Soong, but I am not sure that he passed on the

references to David. However, David does not contest the

right of the authorities to arrest him, and all he urges

is that innocent men be not punished by imprisonment

when he has stated his personal responsibility for

everything to the Post Master General.

As I have said, all I am concerned about are the

relations between our country and China at this critical

stage. I trust they will not be affected.
